Off-road enthusiasts protest Shasta-Trinity refusal to limit road closures

Despite steady rain, more that 100 off-highway vehicle enthusiasts rallied outside Shasta Trinity National Forest offices near Airport Road today in protest of forest officials' decisions to close a number of logging and other roads to the public.

Joining the protesters were Shasta County Supervisor Les Baugh and Sheriff Tom Bosenko.

County supervisors had sent a letter to the Forest service asking, on behalf of Shasta County residents, that public, open access be granted to the forests.

But a Shasta Trinity National Forest regional forester recently rejected that request, ruling that OHV traffic is not suitable on those roads, which he deemed "highways."
